How safe is my money at Casera Financial?

Any funds deposited at Casera Financial are 100 percent guaranteed by the Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba. As a virtual branch operating exclusively online, Casera Financial uses the most up to date security measures to ensure that your financial and personal data remain confidential and safe.

How much does it cost to set up an account at Casera Financial?

There are no fees to sign up with Casera Financial or to maintain your account.

I am a current member of Casera Credit Union. Can I set up a Casera Financial account?

No. At present, Casera Financial is only available to new members.

What do I need to complete the application process?

Opening a Casera Financial account is uncomplicated and takes less than 10 minutes. You will need to provide your name, address and social insurance number, as well as a valid email address and a personalized cheque from a Canadian financial institution. You must also be over 18 years of age.

Can I open a joint account?

Yes, you can open a joint account, even if the person is not with you. When submitting your first cheque, both names must be on it, and both must sign. You will both have online access, and your names will jointly appear on the account.

Where do I find my Casera Financial reference number?

Upon completion of your online application, Casera Financial will send a confirmation email to your inbox that includes your reference number. Please include this reference number on your mailed cheque.

After filling out my application online, how long will it be before my account is active?

Your account should be active and funds available to view online approximately ten (10) days after we receive your mailed cheque. You will receive an email confirmation once your cheque is received.

Do I have to mail my cheque?

Yes, to activate your Casera Financial account, you are required to mail a cheque made out to yourself that includes the total amount you are investing in your GIC, TFSA, RRSP or high yield savings plus your $5 share.

You can mail your cheque (referencing your Casera Financial reference number) to Casera Financial, 1300 Plessis Road, Winnipeg, MB, R2C 2Y6.

Can I open more than one Casera Financial product?

Yes, during the online application process you will be given the option to open more than one account.

How can I view my account?

Once your account is activated, you will receive a Personal Access Code (PAC). You can use this to view your account through Casera Financial’s online banking portal via caseracu.ca.

Will I receive a monthly statement?

Yes, you can view and print your quarterly online statements anytime and at no charge through Casera Financial’s online banking portal via caseracu.ca.

Can I access Casera Financial on my mobile device?

Yes, you can view the Casera Financial site on your smartphone or tablet.

When will I receive a tax receipt?

If you purchase a new RRSP, you will receive an official receipt for income tax purposes by the end of February of the following year.

Note: You may contribute to your RRSP at any time during the year. Contributions made during the first 60 days of any year may be deducted for the current or immediately preceding tax year. The Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) has confirmed that if the last day of the 60-day period falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the deadline will be extended to the following Monday. Official receipts for RRSPs purchased during the 60-day period are generated immediately following the contribution and mailed to you.

If your interest earnings are over $50.00, you will receive a T5 by the end of February.

Why do I have to purchase a $5 share?

After my account is opened, can I open another account?

Yes, just complete the online application with the new amount you would like to invest.

Why do I have to provide my SIN and other personal details?

Federal banking regulations require us to ask for your Social Insurance Number (SIN) and some other pertinent details. This information helps us confirm and protect your identity. The questions are also in place to aid financial institutions such as Casera Credit Union in recognizing and stopping illegal activities such as international money laundering.
